{"id":65851,"date":"2023-07-03T22:34:15","date_gmt":"2023-07-03T22:34:15","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/cucineditalia.com\/the-cradle-of-asti-sparkling-wines-canelli-obtains-docg-status\/"},"modified":"2023-07-17T06:14:10","modified_gmt":"2023-07-17T06:14:10","slug":"asti-sparkling-wines-canelli-obtains-docg","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/cucineditalia.com\/en\/asti-sparkling-wines-canelli-obtains-docg\/","title":{"rendered":"The Cradle of Asti Sparkling Wines: Canelli Obtains DOCG Status"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><em>Canelli officially becomes a DOCG as the European Commission regulation (2023\/1327) officially deems &#8220;Canelli,&#8221; the cradle of Moscato d&#8217;Asti, a region among the protected designations of origin that has been&nbsp;<strong>published in the European Union&#8217;s Official Journal.<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The recognition takes in grapes from vineyards composed <a href=\"https:\/\/cucineditalia.com\/en\/the-most-loved-italian-wines-in-the-world\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">exclusively<\/a> of the Moscato bianco variety from<strong>\u00a017 municipalities around the Canelli subzone<\/strong>,\u00a0a crossing point between the Langhe and Monferrato.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>The Accomplishment of Canelli<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>For the&nbsp;<strong>vice-president of the Asti DOCG Consortium, Flavio Giacomo Scagliola<\/strong>,&nbsp;this is an important moment. \u201cThis is a particularly significant recognition for Canelli, one of the flagships of Piedmont&#8217;s quality viticulture and in particular of Moscato d&#8217;Asti DOCG,\u201d he remarked. \u201cIt is&nbsp;a <strong>fundamental step for the socio-economic growth of an area increasingly devoted to wine tourism<\/strong>.&nbsp;Now the process involves the assignment of the protection body, which will soon see the Consortium of Asti protecting not only Asti Spumante and Moscato d&#8217;Asti, but also Canelli.&#8221;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>The Birthplace of Asti\u2019s Sparkling Wine<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>An area with as yet unexpressed potential, the recognized DOCG now counts on a production of nearly one million bottles.
