The Lugana DOC Protection Consortium establishes a permanent youth network to guide the appellation’s evolution and structural growth. A collective of thirty-one under-40 professionals steps forward to address market shifts and cultivate future regional leadership.
With the establishment of the Lugana Youth Group, the Lugana DOC Protection Consortium integrates the rising generation of winegrowers and professionals within its strategic core, supporting the appellation’s long-term evolution through shared vision and contemporary expertise.
The collective brings together 31 producers and professionals under the age of 40 who currently hold decision-making positions within local wineries. Formed to enhance the contribution of those actively driving the development of Lugana, the network ensures younger voices assume a central role in the appellation’s growth and strategic vision.
Reflecting a medium-to-long-term perspective, the initiative views Lugana as a dynamic, contemporary appellation capable of balancing a solid identity with structural evolution.
Shared Vision and Market Dynamics
The Lugana Youth Group provides a permanent forum for discussion and planning to address core viticultural and market challenges. Key areas of focus encompass the analysis of shifting international consumer preferences, the refinement of contemporary communication, technological innovation, and the cultivation of new market relationships.
Beyond internal dialogue, the project seeks to generate value through concrete initiatives and shared professional growth. Objectives include fostering deeper synergies among estates, establishing open channels with other Italian and international wine regions, and developing experiential training through educational visits and exchanges with benchmark appellations to acquire advanced expertise and best practices.
Cultivating Tomorrow’s Leadership
A central pillar involves generational transition and institutional development. The group aims to guide the growth of future leadership, providing younger members with the tools, operational awareness, and participation required to contribute effectively to consortium governance over time.
Functioning as an active operational incubator rather than a mere advisory panel, the group transforms ideas and visions into tangible initiatives. Events and activities conceived by younger professionals strengthen the connection to the terroir and solidify Lugana’s standing among the most dynamic wine regions in Italy. Network building, collaborative expertise, and collective participation define the foundational principles of the Lugana Youth Group as it shapes the future landscape of the appellation.
An Innovation Laboratory
«Investing in younger generations provides the foundation and vision necessary for the future of Lugana. The project centers on the capability of 31 professionals under 40, providing the means to cultivate tomorrow’s leadership. The Youth Group operates as an innovation laboratory where fresh perspectives translate into concrete strategies, ensuring the appellation retains the capacity for renewal essential to enduring success.»
