Neolith teams up with Jamie Durie to shape Belah House, a new icon of sustainable luxury

Neolith, a global leader in sintered stone surfaces, proudly joins forces with renowned TV host, horticulturalist, and award-winning landscape designer Jamie Durie in the creation of Belah House – a visionary residence located on the Avalon coastline in New South Wales that embodies a deep respect for the environment while showcasing cutting-edge green technology.

Designed in collaboration with acclaimed architecture studio Silvester Fuller, the project sets a new benchmark for sustainable luxury, where performance, beauty and environmental responsibility come together in perfect harmony.

A home shaped by nature and purpose

Belah House was born from Durie’s vision to create a home that proves sustainable living doesn’t require sacrificing elegance or comfort. Inspired by the natural landscape and guided by the Wiradjuri word “Belah” – meaning “Sun” – the residence is positioned as a model for net-positive design in the Australian housing sector.

“We wanted to create a home that feels connected to the land, just as the river carves its own path through the environment. Every decision in this build was made with sustainability, rejuvenation and longevity in mind.”, Durie says. “We had to find a way of meandering the house or wrapping the house around all the existing trees but also making the most in stepping down the levels on the terraced front here so we could maximize the views towards the waterfront.”

Spanning a steep 37-degree slope in a protected zone filled with native spotted gum trees, the house was carefully constructed to work with the land rather than against it. Every architectural decision was driven by principles of regeneration and longevity.

“This is the most ambitious project of my life,” Durie reflects. “We set out to prove that you can build a luxury home, without compromise, that’s also kind to the planet”.

Redefining the future of sustainable homes

Belah House stands as a pioneering example of sustainable innovation, seamlessly integrating cutting-edge green technologies to redefine the concept of an environmentally conscious home. At the heart of this groundbreaking project is an advanced geothermal heating, cooling, and renewable energy system, capable of achieving grid independence while delivering over 80% savings on energy bills.

Enhancing both well-being and efficiency, the residence features a chemical and chlorine-free pool system, ensuring a healthier and more sustainable aquatic experience. A circadian rhythm lighting program has been thoughtfully incorporated to support natural sleep cycles, fostering an optimal living environment.

Sustainability extends to every detail, including floor and window coverings crafted from recycled ocean plastics, alongside intelligent blinds designed to optimize energy consumption, reducing costs by up to 80%. Additionally, an innovative Australian concrete solution significantly lowers carbon emissions by 35% to 65%, further underscoring the project’s commitment to environmental responsibility.

Neolith’s surfaces at the heart of sustainable design

The selection of Neolith was instrumental in shaping the tactile identity of the home. Neolith’s sintered stone surfaces are featured across key interior applications, balancing aesthetics with resilience.

The kitchen showcases Neolith Calacatta, wrapping the countertops, café nook, and butler’s pantry in a seamless visual flow. A ZIP tap delivers instant hot, cold, and sparkling water, combining functionality with sleek design.

For a dramatic touch, Neolith Black Obsession defines the home’s bar area, where its deep tones contrast beautifully with timber finishes and natural textures. In the bathrooms, a curated blend of Neolith Colorado Dunes, Neolith Calacatta Luxe, and Neolith Calacatta exudes calm and elegance, amplifying light and space.

“Neolith was the perfect choice for us,” Jamie says. “Not only is it incredibly durable and beautiful, but it’s also made with sustainability in mind. That’s exactly what this house stands for”, adds.

A shared commitment

As sustainability continues to shape the future of architectural design, Neolith’s role in pioneering responsible innovation is more relevant than ever. Andreas Manero, Marketing Director of Neolith, says: “Our materials are crafted with the environment in mind, making them the ideal choice for projects that prioritize sustainable design and long-term impact. We’re proud to be part of projects like this one, where innovation and environmental responsibility go hand in hand.”

With this project, Neolith further consolidates its leadership in sustainable architectural surfaces, contributing to inspiring new trends in construction and design across the globe.
