A vertical Pinot Noir sparkling wine and a rare, native red served chilled: how the historic Valdostan winery captures the vibrant, alpine essence of Valle d’Aosta for the warmest months of the year.
The first proposal is a sparkling wine crafted from the black-skinned grape Pinot Noir, standing out for its freshness, vibrant acidity, and distinct mineral character—defining traits of this variety within the region. The second is a red wine derived from a historic, indigenous Valle d’Aosta grape variety. Known for its beautiful clusters ranging from coral-pink to purplish hues, it yields a floral profile paired with a persistent yet wonderfully smooth tannin structure.
Mas du Jario: The Elegance of High-Altitude Bubbles
The austere and refined Mas du Jario draws its name from Jario—an ancient term documented in a notary deed dating back to 1700—which identifies a specific plot within the Tzeriat vineyard. Situated at an altitude of approximately 800 to 900 meters above sea level, it beautifully embodies the mountain terroir and the Grosjean family’s winemaking philosophy. On the nose, it reveals floral scents and citrus accents alongside subtle notes of bread crust; on the palate, it is savory and vertical in its elegance, driven by a fine, persistent perlage.
Premetta: A Rare, Native Jewel Served Chilled
With Premetta (also known as Prié Rouge), the estate celebrates a highly rare, native coral-pink variety that continues to be cultivated on the property. Grown at altitudes reaching 800 meters above sea level, its extreme delicacy and fragility during harvest prompted the winery to vinify it as a single-varietal wine, thus fully honoring its distinct identity.
The result is an elegant expression characterized by a classic vein of minerality—a signature hallmark across the entire portfolio of this Valdostan estate—complemented by a firmer structure and well-integrated tannins. Offering aromas of wild rose and bright fruity notes, this wine shows at its absolute best when served chilled, between 12 and 14°C.
The Perfect Pairing for Alpine Summer Nights
Both labels serve as ideal choices for an aperitivo and pair beautifully with traditional regional cuisine. They offer an authentic taste of a mountain territory, inviting wine lovers to discover and experience the crisp, refreshing side of Valle d’Aosta this summer.
