Avignon Kitchen by Nicola Gallizia for TM Italia

The Avignon kitchen, developed by TM Italia in collaboration with Nicola Gallizia, emerges as a design reflection on the relationship between individual-product and individual-environment, as well as designer-product and designer-environment. It constitutes a structured system of elements introducing new discontinuities in kitchen furniture composition, paying homage in name and design philosophy to the ability to look beyond reality, a characteristic of avant-garde art movements of the early twentieth century.

Distinctive design elements include large handles made of wood or stone, celebrating tactility and the sensory connection between product and individual; projecting modules, suggesting a “decompositive” design approach allowing for the creation of complex geometries that rhythmically shape the environment by alternating voids and solids; and invisible technology enabling the product to transform and adapt to the changing needs of domestic spaces.

The stylistic signature of TM Italia’s project lies in the number 7.5, expressing the significant thickness in centimeters of the table, tops, and backs, as well as the large handles, positioned either horizontally or vertically on doors and fronts. Two key materials feature in this Avignon setup: Eucalyptus Frisé wood for all doors and front panels of drawers, and Dover White marble for tops, backs, the front of the island, and the preassembled basin.

The exquisite Eucalyptus Frisè wood, finished in matte paint and sourced from FSC-certified wood species, showcases the small ripples of regular and parallel grain patterns when light refracts on the surfaces. Dover White marble is characterized by fluid and sinuous forms in shades of gray and milk white.

“We are honored by this prestigious achievement, attained through teamwork and relentless commitment to innovation in service of the project. Alongside the Compasso d’Oro award for the Rua model in 2020, this milestone represents a significant confirmation of TM Italia’s human-sized business model, combining industrial capabilities and artisanal care to offer a broad spectrum of design possibilities. This result makes us realize that we are on the right path and motivates us to do even better every day,” says Gianluca Tondi, General Manager of TM Italia.
