Vincent Van Duysen’s vision for Molteni&C harmonizes ancient Hinoki purity with fluid geometry and technical precision.
Physis redefines the domestic core, evolving the kitchen into a definitive architectural statement. Vincent Van Duysen’s language for Molteni&C moves away from rigid modularity toward a more organic, a sculptural vernacular.
Fluid Topography
The design prioritizes formal harmony through rounded edges and curved gables, softened by sophisticated half-bullnose workmanship. Such formal continuity extends to the soft, curved profiles of the sink and snack counter, where a metal insert enriches the worktop thickness, tracing the linear flow to define a welcoming, organic aesthetic. Transparent glass partitions and open compartments foster spatial fluidity, maintaining a constant visual dialogue with the surrounding architecture.
A Sensory Dialogue
Hinoki veneer—a precious species rooted in Japanese craftsmanship—defines the project’s sensory core. Valued for its natural purity and exceptional moisture resistance, the wood introduces high-performance naturalism to the kitchen. Natural oils within the fine grain provide inherent antibacterial qualities, optimizing the surface for the rigors of food preparation. Van Duysen juxtaposes such ancient materiality against a contemporary palette of Pewter, Iris, and Bronze profiles, establishing a sophisticated tension between organic warmth and metallic finesse.
Integrated Craftsmanship
Base units, tall storage, and the extraction hood operate as a singular, coordinated entity, reaching rare stylistic coherence. Integrated warm LED lighting balances such a monolithic volume, acting as a tool for architectural definition. Light washes over wood, marble, and aluminum textures, revealing nuanced depths while highlighting the sartorial precision defining Molteni&C DNA.
Physis operates as a versatile system for infinite configurations, offering a bespoke response to evolving high-end living requirements. Within the upper echelons of design, complex technical challenges find resolution through purity of form and the honesty of materials.
