From 1925 nautical origins to nanotechnology: Reinterpreting heritage through rounded geometries and sustainable innovation, while extending a distinctive design language across the domestic landscape.
During the 2026 edition of Milano Design Week, Schiffini re-established its presence within the urban fabric of Milan, inhabiting the Signature Kitchen Suite showroom at Via Manzoni 47. The curated landscape fostered a sophisticated dialogue between archival milestones—the legendary Cina and Cinqueterre—and contemporary visions, anchoring the brand’s identity in a state of constant, elegant evolution.
BAIA: A Tribute to Maritime Heritage
The protagonist of the exhibition was BAIA, the new model designed by Marco Costanzi, which marks a return to the brand’s roots. Founded in 1925 in La Spezia, where land meets sea, Schiffini began by producing furniture for the nautical world: a legacy re-emerging in this project.
BAIA is a design concept born from a careful observation of the real world. The focus is on corners – the sharp ones found in historic architecture and the more subtle ones in everyday objects – transforming them into more welcoming elements. The corner is rounded and softened, whilst the door opens outwards with a more dynamic presence. This is not merely an aesthetic choice, but a response to the idea of a space in constant motion, in which every element is called upon to find its own balance.
In Marco Costanzi’s work, architecture and design merge into a single design vision. His artistic direction for SCHIFFINI is based on a language characterised by simplicity, precision and perceptual exploration, where materials, light and proportions become tools for creating an authentic everyday experience. BAIA fully embodies this vision, expressing a formal purity that translates into tangible quality.
Technological Rigor and the Expansion of the Domestic Grammar
The project also looks to the future through technological innovation. The surfaces are created using nanotechnology, through a chemical-free, sustainability-focused cold vitrification process. This solution not only guarantees high performance in terms of durability, but also gives the material an unprecedented and sophisticated depth of colour.
The Schiffini universe expanded further with the introduction of a new wardrobe collection for the bedroom. This natural progression extends the brand’s precise design grammar beyond the kitchen, creating a coherent, harmonious transition into the sleeping area. Within the LG Electronics group’s space, amidst the “Feeding the Future” exhibition, Schiffini proved that technology remains the silent partner of food sustainability and human-centred design.
