In Nizza Monferrato Palazzo del Gusto located in the elegant Neoclassic setting of Palazzo Crova – a majestic venue deeply connected with Monferrato’s history and art of food and wine – preparations are being made for Il Nizza è, an event dedicated to the wine appellation of the same name, a DOCG red Italian wine produced in the northern Italian region of Piedmont, and the area’s culinary excellence, all on stage from October 22-24.
The event, now in its third edition, is organized by Enoteca Regionale di Nizza, Città di Nizza Monferrato and Associazione Produttori del Nizza in collaboration with the Asti delegation of AIS (the association of Italian sommeliers) and under the patronage of Consorzio Barbera d’Asti e Vini del Monferrato, the Province of Asti, Comunità Collinare Vigne & Vini and the Association for the Heritage of the Langhe Roero e Monferrato Wine Landscapes.
The Events of The Nizza è
Confirming its traditional framework, “Il Nizza è” includes tasting counters divided according to territories of origin and a masterclass that compares Nizza with some of Italy’s most important appellations. For this year, the time available for tastings has been increased and access to the event during all three days has been given to the public, press and trade professionals.
Palazzo del Gusto at Palazzo Crova
Tastings at the tasting counters are confirmed to be the heart of the event in this third edition as well, staged within the setting of Palazzo del Gusto in Palazzo Crova, a multimedia exhibition and pivotal place for the area’s food and wine that, through the history of its hills and its typical and excellent products, preserves the roots and bears witness to the evolution of local taste.
The labels for tasting from Nizza DOCG
The over 100 labels from more than 60 producers who will be tasting the Nizza, Nizza Riserva and Cru will be organized in six wine-tasting booths located in the first-floor room to learn about and appreciate the differences between the DOCG’s main terroir zones, guided by AIS sommeliers.
Among the not-to-be-missed appointments of “Il Nizza è” is the “6 great reds blind comparative tasting,” featuring 6 prestigious labels, accompanied by finger food from the Piedmontese tradition. AIS sommeliers will accompany participants on this enogastronomic journey of excellence: a game of the parts to reveal the characteristics that distinguish Nizza DOCG, juxtaposed with renowned Italian “competitors,” revealed only at the end of the tasting. The event will be held at the Trinity Auditorium, a deconsecrated church that passed to the Nicese Academy of Culture in the 1980s. Speaker of the meeting will be Andrea Castelli.
