Pedrali presents Guinea, the new outdoor armchair by CMP Design. By calling to mind exotic tropical destinations, the name Guinea evokes the outdoor soul of this product. The chair is the fruit of a 12-year collaboration between Pedrali and CMP Design, a bond that focuses on expression, technology, beauty and sustainability.
Soaking Up Some Rays with CMP for Pedrali
“Guinea is the name that the early Spanish explorers gave to an area of West Africa. This evocative name seemed the perfect choice for a chair that was just as ideal for soaking up the sun as it is place on the deck of a ship headed to the Galapagos Islands,” CMP Designs.
The new armchair by CMP Design presented during the 2023 edition of Salone del Mobile.Milano is realised in aluminium for outdoor use and evokes the concept of lightness and transparency.
The hallmark of Guinea is its oil-treated FSC® C114358 certified teak armrests, which fit into the aluminium frame by introducing a vivid, tactile detail. A durable tropical wood that the designers wanted to preserve through a moderate use. The large, embracing aluminium frame combines with a seat in waterproof textile mesh on which rests a soft, removable flexible polyurethane foam cushion covered with a water-repellent lining.
“Guinea is a stackable dining chair designed to withstand in the sun but also in heavy rainstorms. For this reason, each material fulfils a specific function: the frame is made of aluminium, with a large section that makes this chair very sturdy and strong,” note the designers. “The part that comes int contact with the hands is made of teak, a natural material that neither becomes hot under the sun nor cold during the winter, so that it can be caressed. Therefore, we decided to use teach in the most important part, the part in contact with the hands.”
An Outdoor Chair of Enduring Quality
The Guinea backrest can be customised in various configurations, in this way, the armchair is able to offer a variety of solutions in terms of colour and more, able to meet the taste and needs of every possible user.
The version with a waterproof textile mesh backrest is reminiscent of the traditional director’s chairs, with an enhanced sense of visual lightness. The possibility of stacking the chair ensures maximum strength and functionality.
The version with the backrest in aluminium slats features more traditional, archetypical forms. The backrest may be upholstered in fabric and designed to further enhance comfort.
Thanks to its aluminium construction, Guinea is perfect in the open air, along the seafront, by the pool, or even on the deck of a ship – places where you can enjoy beautiful landscapes and a long, relaxed time.
Its armrests, seat and backrest are assembled mechanically, making them easy to disassemble for recycling purposes or to replace its components.
