A Limited Edition Wine Dressed in Pink: CaP Rosé 2020 Caccia al Piano

A limited-edition with sparkling scents and just the right amount of novelty: Caccia al Piano presents CaP Rosé 2020 bubbles, a special edition dedicated to pioneering winemaker and founder of Franciacorta sparkling wines Franco Ziliani.

A precious and unique Metodo Classico, cuvée of Syrah and Merlot, produced in only 7,000 bottles and distributed exclusively in Tuscany. An absolute novelty, a true exception both for the Bolgheri territory and for Caccia al Piano: CaP Rosé is in fact the first Metodo Classico that the Ziliani family has decided to produce in its Castagneto Carducci estate in Tuscany.

“The desire to want to challenge ourselves even within this wonderful territory with the Metodo Classico represented a litmus test for us, but above all a dream, the same one that animated my father more than 60 years ago,” explains Paolo Ziliani, at the helm of Caccia al Piano and, together with his siblings Cristina and Arturo, at the helm of the Berlucchi wine estate created by their father Franco Ziliani, a trailblazer in the birth of Franciacorta – a wine-producing region of Lombardy famous for its marvelous champagne method wines created in the enchanting region just south of Lake Iseo.

“CaP Rosé,” continues Paolo Ziliani, “is not just a sparkling wine, but a way of savoring life, trying to capture the essence of the Bolgheri territory, with vines that have found perfect places and positions here to perform at their best, including in the garnering of a sparkling wine.

CaP Rosé Caccia al Piano

CaP Rosé 2020 is the result of the union in equal parts of Syrah and Merlot bred in two specific cru of Caccia al Piano, San Biagio and Le Grottine. The former, the estate’s most important and largest at 12 hectares, is located in the hamlet of Castiglioncello at about 180 meters above sea level: here the Syrah is able to express its distinct varietal aromaticity and acidity. Le Grottine, which has an extension of 5 hectares and an East-West orientation, has always been the “home” of Caccia al Piano’s Merlot: thanks to the presence of soils rich in silt, clay, and stones, it imparts fruity, fine and elegant notes and excellent structure.

After the harvest, in late August, the grapes are vinified separately in stainless steel vats with a very soft pressing of the whole grapes in order to preserve the primary aromas of the juice.

In spring, the so-called draught, i.e. bottling, takes place, and the second fermentation with subsequent rest in contact with its own yeasts begins, a step that lasts for about 10 months.

Caccia al Piano’s CaP Rosé 2020 Vino Spumante di Qualità Extra Brut – of which the dosage of liqueur is only 3 g/l – has a powdery pink color and a perlage of great finesse and persistence. Notes of fresh red fruits reminiscent of currants and gooseberries mingle with more decisive and intense ones of prickly pear pulp. A good structure, supported by a calibrated acidity and a slightly tannic finish, characterizes this Rosé that manages to harmonize the power of Bolgheri Merlot along with the elegance of Syrah.
