The historic Pieropan winery, in the heart of the vineyards of Soave (Verona), a land that bears witness to a long tradition in the production of world-renowned wines, is illuminated with elegance courtesy of lighting design solutions by Catellani & Smith.
Designed in 2015 by architect Moreno Zurlo, the Pieropan family’s Soave Estate is architecture and land that become part of the same whole: in fact, the building is completely buried in the hillside, except for the facade made of solid Vicenza stone.
The estate is designed not only to be a place for the production, maturation and aging of wine, but also as a place of visitation and discovery where events can be hosted and visitors welcomed.
On the outside, the building is encircled by family-owned vineyards – some of them totally experimental – created to stimulate sharing and knowledge. Inside, on the other hand, the environments are characterized by workspaces set up in perfect harmony with the processing phases of the raw material, enriching themselves with elements capable of arousing engaging emotions and suggestions.
This is the case of Catellani & Smith, which, with its decorative lighting project, has given new light to the barrique room and tasting room of Tenuta Soave Pieropan.
Architectures of Light at the Soave Winery by Catellani & Smith
The most fascinating part of the estate is the barrique cellar. This vast underground room evokes, in those who grow, work and produce that wine, the same reverence that an ancient temple can evoke.
Upon entering the space, two rows of barrique barrels – neat and rhythmic – quickly lead the eye to the back of the room, where a custom “Full Moon” realization is installed, with a diameter of 240 cm and covered in gold-colored leaf.
The ceiling lighting was also specially designed to emphasize the perspective effect in the barrel room, thanks to the installation of an expanse of custom suspensions, which have been differentiated in diameter and finish – gold and copper – to create a harmonious setting, in a play of reflections and shadows.
The suspensions are composed of a jagged dome and thin rods that support a micro LED, which emphasizes the gold and copper finishes.
The Future with an Ancient Heart at Pieropan
Also placed on one of the walls of the room is a painted iron element, laser-cut and coated internally in gold leaf, illuminated by an LED source: there appears the personalized inscription “The future has an ancient heart,” the motto of the Pieropan family, which considers the Soave Winery “a strong renewal, in the wake of tradition.”
In the tasting room, on the other hand, Lederam C180 ceiling models with a white screen and a custom disc painted in brass color have been installed: the LED module, housed inside the lower disc, directs the light to the upper disc, which reflects the light by diffusing it into the room while creating a luminous aura on the ceiling.
Completing the environments are numerous Lederam F2 floor lamps composed of two metal rods that each support a swiveling aluminum disk, coated in gold-colored leaf.
