The Soft Contours of Gallotti&Radice’s Akiko Chair

A line reminiscent of traditional Oriental furniture distinguishes the Akiko chair, created by designers Oscar and Gabriele Buratti for Gallotti&Radice, recently awarded the German Design Award 2023 as a winner in the Excellent Product Design Furniture category.

The Akiko Chair: Concept and Design

Indeed, the seat was able to enthuse for its concept and design. “With its generous, rounded backrest,” the jury commented, “Akiko embraces users and promises them a pleasantly soft seating experience thanks to the thick padding. The structure ensures lightness and the shapes mean that this elegant chair fits in with many interior styles.”

The Akiko chair has an upholstered seat and backrest covered in the fabrics and leather in the sample book; the base is made of metal and is offered in a warm grey finish.

The Akiko Lounge

The seat also comes in its Lounge version: an armchair with soft, enveloping volumes characterized by padding featuring differentiated-density polyurethane foam and polyester fiber.

The seat, circular in shape, and the backrest, stretched forward to form two armrests, are held together by a “warm grey” painted metal frame. The cover of the Akiko Lounge armchair is removable and can be made in various colors of fabric or leather found in the Gallotti&Radice catalog.

Gallotti&Radice’s Variations

In addition, as a preview for the 2023 collection, Akiko is available in a version with a swiveling 180° movement including a return with a 4-spoke base of painted metal in a “warm grey” color with finishings.
